Photography by Mimmo ZiddaThe Church of San Francesco (Via Carlo Alberto), was built in the second half of the 14th century and partially reconstructed at the end of the 16th century. Thanks to the recent works of restoration, it is possible to see the harmony between Gothic-Catalan and late Renaissance architecture. The different shades of stones used for the construction prove the different period of building. In fact, while the lower part of the facade including the Roman rose window dates back to the 14th century, the upper part with the large rose window is late 16th century. In the presbytery which is dominated by star-shaped ceiling, you can see the main altar, worked in polychrome marbles, constructed in the 18th century.  The Roman cloisters, built in sandstone are particularly interesting with their 22 columns on multisided bases, have circular and polygonal sections. The idea of elegance which lacks in the Roman structures of the cloisters is compensated by the gracefulness of the bell tower which dominates the building.
