Situated between Golfo di Cugnana and Golfo di Marinella, this area stretches for about 500 sq hectares and includes a very well equipped 800 boats harbour.

It is part of Olbia-Tempio province and is situated on the North-East of Sardinia, few miles away from Olbia, Golfo Aranci, Palau e Arzachena and behind Golfo di Marinella.

Around the central initial structure, started in 1964 by Venetians Luigi and Nicolo' delle Rose, within the plan by a group of entrepreneurs such as Giorgio Cini and English banker George Frank, were developed holiday blocks, residence and villas, which during the summer host 20,000 visitors with tops of 32,00 in August. For the rest of the year only around 1000 people live in the area.

It's quite clear that Porto Rotondo copies Venice structure: not a coincidence the main central square has been called Piazzetta San Marco.

Between the many beautiful and renowned beaches: Ira (Sa Rena Manna in Sardinian), in honour of Ira von Fürstenberg, Spiaggia Sassi e Punta Volpe (in sardinian Iscia Segada). Together with Porto Cervo. Porto Rotondo it's considered one the hippest places in Sardinia and all over Italy (obviously this is all relative, depending on your interest about VIPs): it easy to spot VIP in this area, specially in the summer and in night clubs.

Porto Rotondo Yacht Club has been officially set in 1985 still by the venetian brothers Nicolò e Luigi Donà delle Rose which few decades back invented Porto Rotondo. In 1987 Porto Rotondo Yacht Club Porto Rotondo, was made part (with autonomous status) of Costa Smeralda Yacht Club, whose president is the Aga Khan. Its affiliation was concluded 10 years after. The Coat of Arms of the Club shows a red cross on white (to represent the strong connections with Genova Italian Yacht Club of which Porto Rotondo should have represent its summer location) and on the red cross the San Marco lion (since the Donà delle Rose brothers are in fact venetians) which hold between its legs the Sardinia flag with the four moores.The YCPR has become in the years one of most important Clubs in Italy. Every year by the end of August Porto Rotondo hosts the Big Game, a sport fishing competition which is considered one of the most relevant in Italy.
