Platamona (Pratamona in Sassarese, from the greek-Platamon Onos, or flat, sandy plain, wide is the strip of coastline of the Gulf, in the north of Sardinia between Abbacurrente Tower in Marina di Sorso and Porto Torres, and is considered the traditional Sassari beach, being one of the geographically closest to the town, a dozen km along the Provincial Road 60, known as Buddi Buddi. Administratively the area is divided between the municipalities of Porto Torres, Sassari and the greatest extension of Sorso.


It is a beach of white sand and shells, from 10 to 25 feet wide, which in many places has still intact dune system and a pine forest planted by the fascist regime. It is surrounded entirely by the Provincial Road 81, which separates it from the pond of the same name and the remaining pine forest also extended into the interior. The descent to the sea starting from the road to reach the public beaches are called Pettini (combs). It is regularly connected to the major centers of public transport trunk lines, such as by ATP (Public Transport Company) of Sassari.

Has expanded from initial core of the Navy of Sassari, also known as the Rotunda, which housed popular bars and clubs in the '50s and '60s as the Lido Iris (now abandoned), then get a development related to tourist villages, hotels, bars, pizzerias and campsites mostly owned by Sassarese. There are also colonies of marine public, an airfield for light aircraft, a water park, a shopping center and gallery, supermarkets, plus various other forms of accommodation such as bed and breakfasts and hotels. Although not commonly included among the beaches, Sardinia's most popular and famous, like La Pelosa at Stintino, is very popular with tourists from the mainland (not Sardinian) and foreign, mainly British and Germans. The bays, clear waters and white sand are the main attractions of the area. Foreign tourists rely on these structures but most often rented apartments on the coast with prices that were far more affordable than in other areas far more noble. Fishing Sports (much practiced all year) in summer is permitted from 20.00 to 9.00. The depths are predominantly sandy. Is very common to come across fish of various sizes: bream, bream, white bream, sole, mullet, bass.
