History
This is situated about 10 kilometres from Alghero on the road which leads to Porto Conte. It is an extremely interesting settlement consisting of a complex nuragh
e, the so called palace, surrounded by at least 50 "huts" which are mostly circular. The main tower of the nuraghe which still has its dome shaped ceiling dates back to 1100 years BC. The complex, which was abandoned in the 5th century BC, due to fire, shows the different phases of social life and political organization of the tribal community.Of extreme interest is the "Reunion Hut" where political debates and magical-religious cults were held. The findings from Palmavera may be seen in Sassari at the Sanna Museum.
