Bosa,
situated on the coast at 45 km south from Alghero is the main town in
the Planargia re gion,
and the only town belonging to the Nuoro province to look over the west
coast. The
production
of crafts extends to
coral jewellery and carving, renowned and exclusive production of "filet" a
particular type of gold filigree and basket weaving.
It is famous for its production of Malvasia, a uniquely flavoured wine,
typical of the region. You can taste authentic Malvasia in the minute "Cantine"
which you can find in the lower side of Bosa, hidden between the houses in
the backstreets.
The
town is cut by the river Temo, the third biggest natural river in Sardinia.
The river can be sailed by small boat up to th e
church of S. Pietro Extramuros (built in 1073 DC, in the place where the
roman Bosa once was situated. at about 3 miles from the source of the mouth
of the river in Bosa Marina. But Bosa best treasure are the multitude of
small beaches with clear crystal water. Apart from the large beach of Bosa
Marina
(most easily
accessible also the busiest) carrying down the coast south, we will get to
Turas beach. Near the river estuary also the coves of Sas Covas, Sos
Columbos, Poggiu 'e Padres and Turas.
The coast going
North towards Alghero gets wilder and wider. Fishing lovers will appreciate

The
old town will fascinate you with its medieval architecture, the narrow and
steep little r oad
and stairs all the way up to the Malaspina Castle (1112). Visits to the
Church Nostra Signora di Regni Alti (1300),
the Cathedral (1400) and the country Church of S. Pietro Extramuros
(1073) are also due.
Seasonal festivals in Bosa are quite an
attraction. On the second Sunday in September
the
celebrations for Nostra Signora dei Regni Alti, start with a procession
throughout the Sa Costa quarter, up to the Church followed by food and wine
being offered in the streets of the old town by locals. Characteristic is
also the Bosa Carnival. On the first Sunday in August there is a spectacular
boat procession on the river for Santa Maria del Mare. |
